GoDaddy MySQL Setup Instructions

This tutorial is for those who want to manually create a database for WordPress on legacy (older) non cPanel GoDaddy hosting

If you ever have to manually install WordPress on a GoDaddy-hosted website, here are a couple special instructions on getting the MySQL database set up. The rest of the install is pretty much the same, but getting the MySQL is a bit different, here are the steps:

1. login at godaddy.com with your cus# and pass and click on the My Account tab

2. scroll down and click on “Web Hosting” under the Products Category

3. click on the green Launch arrow next to the correct hosting account domain

4. once you’re in the “hosting control center” click on “mysql” from the “databases” dropdown menu

5. click the “Add” button to being creating a new database

6. Enter a description (can be anything), database/user name (must be very unique, or you’ll have to try again), and password (also must be unique according to their instructions)

7. (NOTE: you may have to wait 5-10 minutes while the database is setup)

8. After it is set up click the “actions” dropdown and then “details”

9. write down or copy the “Host Name:” this will go in the wp-config.php file in place of “localhost”

98% of the time the “database host” for the WordPress wp-config.php file will be “localhost”, so almost all tutorials (including ours) basically assume this. This is not true for Godaddy-hosted sites. This section is showing you how to get the correct database host for your wp-config.php file if you are on Godaddy. Make sure you get this host name, copy it and, paste it in place of “localhost” in your wp-config.php file. -/-
