Widgets and widget areas are not currently supported by the mobile layout for phones. Tablets will show widget areas, since they will show the desktop layout of your site.
What is a WordPress ‘widget’?
Widgets are gadgets or gizmos that allow you to add various pieces of ‘stuff’ to any area of your site that supports widgets. ‘Stuff’ can range from a block of text to a ProPhoto Grid to an embedded video player; almost anything you can imagine, including:
- Facebook/Twitter functionality
- Links to your blog Post Categories and Archives
- Links to each of your most recent blog Posts
- …and more
WordPress offers some default widgets and ProPhoto offers a number of it’s own, including.
- ProPhoto Grid Widget – to display a grid
- ProPhoto Custom Icon Widget – display an image with a link
- ProPhoto Vertical Nav Menu Widget – displays one of your vertical menus from “ProPhoto” > “Customize” > “Menus”.
- ProPhoto Text Widget – used to display text and any kind of embedded HTML.
- ProPhoto Sliding Twitter Widget – display numerous tweets at one time combined with a customized image
- ProPhoto Twitter.com Widget – display the recent tweets using the default widget structure from twitter

Where do widgets appear?
Your ProPhoto software creates several areas where widgets can be placed. You can even set many of these areas up so they are hidden or shown on certain areas of your site. The areas which hold ‘widget’ content include:
- Fixed Sidebar – this appears along the side of the content on your site, left or right side.
- Footer Area – this appears below all the content of your site.
- Bio Area – this appears below the content of the ‘header’ up top on your site.
- Contact Form – the left side of your ProPhoto Contact Form is made using widget content.
- Sliding Sidebar Drawers – these appear as expanding tabs on the left edge of your site. When clicked they slide open to reveal the widgets they contain.
How do I use widgets?
Well, that depends on the widget. Some widgets simply ask you to choose some options and ‘just work’, while others require you to fill in content yourself. Still others interact with other ProPhoto settings like the Custom Icon widget.
