Uploading and Activating ProPhoto

Upload ProPhoto Zip File

In your WordPress admin area, go to “Appearance” > “Themes”.

Then, click “add new” near the top of the page.

On the “Add Themes” page click on “upload theme.”wp39_upload_theme_2

Click “choose file,” browse to and select the prophoto5.zip file you just downloaded and click “Install Now.”wp39_choose_theme

NOTE: If you do not see the “Upload Theme” option, you may be using WordPress.com which does not permit custom Theme uploads. As our requirements state, you must have a self-hosted WordPress installation – click here for instructions.

Activate ProPhoto Theme

After it uploads successfully, click the “Activate” link to activate the ProPhoto theme.

Register ProPhoto

NOTE: if you want to use ProPhoto temporarily or intend to move your setup later, see the Unregistered Test Mode.

If this is your first time installing ProPhoto on your server, you’ll be required to enter your registration information. Enter the Transaction ID exactly as shown in your account at https://pro.photo/me.

After activation, you will be presented with a confirmation screen and a short video that will give you great information about working with WordPress and ProPhoto.

Be sure to use the ProPhoto Support built into each area of the Customize area for tips, tutorials, and videos helping you along the way.

Potential Problems:

  • Errors like “The theme is missing the style.css stylesheet”
    Are you installing ProPhoto, or a ProPhoto Add-On Design?  Designs must be installed in a different area using the Add-On Design Installation tutorial instead.
    Otherwise, if you are installing ProPhoto, your zip file may be corrupted. Try downloading the file again, or contact us for a fresh copy.
  • Errors like: Unable to create directory /home/user/public_html/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/07
    Follow the tutorial here, and that should fix the problem.
  • If everything just freezes up during the upload process, or you get a different error when trying to upload
    You may need to upload the theme manually. It is a relatively simple process that you can learn here.

Then, click the “Install Themes” tab near the top of the page and click on “Upload”. Then browse to and upload the prophoto3.zip file you just downloaded.

After it uploads successfully, click the “activate” link to activate the ProPhoto theme.

Once you activate ProPhoto, you’ll notice that your “Themes” area probably looks just like it did before you started this process.

Don’t worry, this is what you should be seeing, you did everything right!
