Understanding the Widget-ized Bio Area

Idea 1: Content is handled by widgets

Widgets are flexible, reusable, customizable chunks of content. Adding content to your bio area is as easy as dragging widgets into your bio-area widget columns

Idea 2: Collapsible widget columns

There are 6 areas (columns) where you can drag widgets to have them show up in your Bio area. The layout of these columns are shown in the below diagram.

The main thing to understand is that all 6 of these columns are totally optional. If you don’t have any widgets in a column, that column simply disappears.

Example: so, if you’d like to have two columns side by side in your bio area, just drag your widgets into “Bio area column #1” and “Bio area column #2” and leave all the other columns empty. That will give you two side by side columns.

Example: if you want a chunk of text spanning the available width of your bio with three small columns side-by-side below, then put a text widget into the “Bio area spanning column” and then put other widgets into three of the numbered columns below.

NOTE: If you have uploaded a bio picture from “ProPhoto” > “Customize” > “Bio Area” > “Picture”, then that will act like a “super column” around which other columns will not wrap.

One area of ProPhoto3 that is really powerful and flexible is the new Bio area. It allows you to put all kinds of content into it and arrange it in a lot of different ways. All you need to understand is a couple basic ideas and then you’ll be able to get it looking just about any way you want.

Idea 1: Content is handled by widgets

In ProPhoto2, bio area content was entered and edited on the P2 customization page. That’s no longer true in P3. Now, Bio area content is handled by widgets. Widgets are flexible, reusable, customizable chunks of content. Adding content to your bio area is as easy as dragging widgets into your bio-area widget columns

Idea 2: Collapsible widget columns

In P3 there are five areas (columns) where you can drag widgets to have them show up in your Bio area. The layout of these columns are shown in the below diagram.

The main thing to understand is that all 5 of these columns are totally optional. If you don’t have any widgets in a column, that column simply disappears.

Example: so, if you’d like to have two columns side by side in your bio area, just drag your widgets into “Bio area column #1” and “Bio area column #2” and leave all the other columns empty. That will give you two side by side columns.

Once you try it, it should make sense to you. Here’s a picture of the 5 available columns as seen inside of your Widgets admin area, which is the area where you will be creating your bio content by dragging and customizing widgets:
